Heraeus & Vulcan Catalytic Systems – Our History
Were all about saving energy!
Vulcan Catalytic Systems was created in the USA an 1990. Its founder, Michael J Chapman, has worked in the plastics industry since 1972. During the 1980's he came across the Catalytic Process and quickly realised its potential as an infra red curing oven within the finishing industry. After working with the then main manufacturer of heater panels in the USA, Mike realised that there was further untapped development potential, and thus formed Vulcan Catalytic Systems. Initial development was focused on the thermoforming industry and the company completed numerous gas catalytic retrofits of costly to run electric thermoforming ovens.
The growing powder coating market was then identified as a key area where the use of gas catalytic technology could be applied, and end users would reap the rewards of the inherent energy efficiency. This has led to the design and manufacture of countless powder coating ovens for a wide variety of customers in different industries.
The technology is ideal for heat sensitive substrates, and Vulcan has developed a multi stage curing system for MDF Powder Coating and Vulcan have built some of the largest, high capacity systems in the world. In 2007, Vulcan Catalytic UK was formed in his native Britain, and in June 2014 Vulcan Catalytic Systems was acquired by Heraeus.
